Starting in February 2011, I asked my readers on en•blog what they’d like to see more of. The answer was pigs, and so I started making pig illustrations.

I really wanted to make a watercolor illustration for this piece, and the idea of a pig on a wagon just seemed to pop into my head. To create this illustration I used two reference photos and drew them together, making small adjustments for lighting and proportion. I also changed the name of the red wagon to avoid copyright conflict, but I’m actually happier with the alteration than I would have been with the original brand name remaining. Overall I’m pretty happy with the end result!

This year’s holiday card was meant to focus more on the customer service aspect of OPPC’s business. The outside of the card shows the cold and stuck delivery driver asking a boy for a helping hand to get the delivery finished. Opening up the card, you can see the driver holding on while he and the boy ride the snow sled down a steep hill toward the driver’s destination.

This was a student piece for the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. It’s a page layout, so that white box is supposed to be where the text of the story would go. Although it looks fairly finished, this was only a color study in the class; the teacher had forgotten to assign an actual finished page! So, I never put together a finished page, but I enjoyed working with watercolor so much that I’d probably be tempted to create the finished versions some day when I have time (or financing!).
