Painting helps me bring my imagination to life.

My degree from ASU is in Drawing and Painting, and although I always have pursued being an illustrator with the most intent, my training seems to seep through into all my work. For me, painting is not just a way to create images, it offers a way to tell stories that are intricate, symbolic, and impactful.

My paintings are more personal than my other work. They all have a biographical element, and usually feature a friend or family member prominently while layers of symbolism represent various aspects of my emotions, beliefs and history. In the years that I’ve painted, I’ve also discovered that I’m usually placing characters in ominous surroundings, which I can only assume is the result of growing up on the south rim of the Grand Canyon here in Arizona.
